What is SEO? Why is it important?
SEO (search engine optimization). We all know search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. are just answer machines. You can ask anything and in most cases, you will get a relevant answer.
But, have you ever thought when only 10 URLs appear on the first page of search results how Google selects them? Why does Google select them? And what is special about those URLs?
Let’s dive in.
First thing first: SEO is much about people rather than the search engines themselves. When SEO is done over a website, its main goal is to make your website accessible to the search engine crawlers, so that your content can be indexed for showing up. The next step is most vital but sorry to say that isn't the ultimate goal of SEO - it’s called RANKING.
After indexing your website content (URL) Google shows the most relevant content at the top and relevancy decreases downward. But the question comes how Google does that? Right?
Simply, that is the magic of SEO. SEO will connect you to the people who are searching online for the solutions you offer. Thus your website content is playing a huge role. And remember, content doesn’t refer only to the texts or words, it may be images, videos, infographics, and anything and everything meant to be consumed by the searchers.
Now, to rank on the first page SEO optimized content is a must. The more up it can go ensures more engagement. As rational human beings always prefer toppers.
There are two components of SEO that determine your rank.
Back-links (links to your website mentioned/created by other websites): you can think of it as a referral. The more you hear about a person or thing, the more you believe in him or that.
On-page content: always try to add value to your content. Make it appealing and attractive that searchers don’t leave your site until they finish all lines. Every second matter for Google, to make you a topper.
These two components will decide your position on the RankBrain, which ultimately decides your rank for a query.
Though SEO is a dynamic process, it needs updates as per Google’s rules. But once you have done SEO for your site it may give you dividends over a long time.
